Favorite Books

HAPPY JULY!!!!
Today I am talking about books! My love for reading started when I was very young, my mom would give me a stack of books to look at in my crib. I would sit and look at each page intently for hours. As I got older, I would love going to the library and finding new books. I would be so upset when I had to limit what I could take out. HA! This continued throughout my whole life. I love getting lost in stories and learning new things.

The last five years I have read so many different books. Reading used to be something I was able to do when I wasn't feeling great- I sometimes would read a book a weekend. Now I liked to read for fun and to learn; its not as often and as frequent but I hope that changes.

This year, I have completed 10 books so far. I read them between January and March. I stopped reading during this whole mess but I am hoping that I want to talk about books is giving me the push to jump back into reading. There are a lot of books on my shelf that have not been read yet.

After going through my Goodreads account, I complied my top ten (and three runners up) favorite reads. Here are my Favorite Books (and 3 runners up), in no particular order:

Night Film by Marisha Pessl
I read this book over 5 years ago and I still think about how twisted and crazy this book was. After I read this book, I found there was a multimedia component to it and I have been dying to re-read this book with the multimedia component to see what else Marsha Pessel could have come up with.

Private Series by James Patterson
I loved every single one of these books. The main character, Jack Morgan, was the ultimate man's man and his adventures were (kind of) the same in each book, but it was entertaining as anything. These are easy reads based in fun locations and are filled with suspense, romance and action.

Reconstructing Amelia by Kimberly McCreight
This book was one of the first books that intertwined text messages, emails and other types of text into the book and I LOVED the format. Its an interesting combination. This book was a quick read and I got attached to the characters quickly. It kept me guessing until the end.

Defending Jacob by William Landay
I know this book was just made into a limited series for HBO that I am dying to watch. I loved how this book flipped back and forth between characters and we saw all the sides of the conflict. I loved how this was written and I couldn't put this book down, I needed to know how it ended.

Grace Not Perfection by Emily Ley
Back in 2016, I didn't realize how Joy can manifest in my life and how I needed to give myself more grace. I loved reading this book and answering the prompts that were in the book. I love looking back on my responses from 4 years ago and seeing what I wrote. I gave this book to all my girlfriends that year and they all loved it.

Welcome to Night Vale (Audio Book) by Joseph Fink and Jeffrey Candor
This was one of the only audio books I've listened to and this book was made to be listened to. It was wacky and whoever read it did an amazing job-the sound effects, the different voices- I felt like I was transported to Night Vale. There is a podcast that some people say listening to that will help you get into the book more but I didn't listen to the podcast until afterwards. It was a fun read especially with the flamingos!

 The Expats by Chris Pavone
This is a book I picked up by chance and I LOVED it. I was intrigued by the cover and it did not disappoint. Americans living in Paris trying to blend in; its full of twists, turns, lies, coverups and international locations make fun a fun read.

by Kate Fagen
I am not going to lie, I cried hard reading this book. I found it on a 'buy 3 get 1 free' table at Barnes and Noble. I was drawn to this because UPENN was at the center of it because Maddy was a student there. This book too incorporated text messages, instagram posts, emails and conversations throughout the book which gave it more of a real feeling.  Social media puts such unnecessary pressure on people today and this story was well written to breach a subject that we are still finding out about- how social media affects our mental health.

Another one of my 'buy 3 get 1 free' books. This was an awesome story. Craig and Fred brought together by fate and they really did help each other. The adventure to get them to this point was unbelievable and only possible with kindness from others.
Fred has an instagram too- Fredtheafghan

I don't remember how I stumbled upon this book but I loved it. So much good information shared by the founder of MindBodyGreen. Life is so much more than our jobs; its what we do outside of our jobs that brings us the joy and happiness that creates a well balanced life.

And because I have a hard time choosing, some runners up:

Another quirky but fun book that I really did enjoy. The characters were unique and I quickly realized this bookstore was not  just a bookstore but something far more complex was hidden inside. I flew through this book and I had to know how it ended.

I felt so understood after reading this book. I have become more introverted as I've gotten older and something being quiet in a loud world is hard. This book not only provided facts but also examples how to embrace my quiet ways.

Everyone needs to read this book. I loved how Dave and Ann both gave their perspective on this. They didn't preach they had the perfect relationship, they embraced their imperfect moments and learned together from them and grew from that.

Woah! That was really hard picking favorites. If you want to see what else I have read, what I am currently reading check out my GoodReads account.

What are you currently reading?

[[All the reading she had done had given her a view of life that they had never seen- Roald Dahl, Matilda]]
