Dear November

Dear November,

You have been quite the month. There has been some really awesome moments this month and I think I needed to see these things happen to keep the hope that good things still happen.

We are still in quarantine (Hi Month 8!) somehow with no end in sight. I try every day to focus on the good that is coming from all of this and what I can a actually control. Being able to work from an office is a privilege that I do not take for granted at all. I pray all the time that there is a light at the end of this  very long tunnel. I still feel like when I went to bed on March 13 in one world and woke up in an alternate reality on March 14th.

Speaking of the the 13th, you realize the last normal day we had was Friday the 13th in March right? We just recently had another Friday the 13th in November and as the date approached, I just about held my breath. I had a crazy idea that maybe everything would be reversed and we would return things back to normal but it ended up being a super boring, new type of normal day, which was totally fine in my book.

On a super exciting note, earlier this month I reached a savings goal of mine. I have been working towards this goal for about 14 months and I was able to reach it 6ish weeks early. This allows me to now move on to my next savings goal. I am hoping to be able to reach the next goal within the next year or so. This made me so happy- it has been a long road to get to this point.

Another positive note in November, it was Adoption month but more specifically Adoption Day was November 19 for Ocean County. While this year's celebrations looked a little different than past years, it was such a fun afternoon. There was a beautiful speech from a resource parent talking about her experience over that past 25 years and there was also a slideshow of photos of the adopting families. Despite all of the craziness of this year, this was the absolute very perfect way to have Adoption Day.

My family and I started to think about our Christmas card photos earlier this month and we contacted a local photographer who took our photos last week. We got the online gallery this past weekend and I was blown away how beautiful they ended up. We took them about an hour before sunset (golden hour) at a local lake in my town. I will be sharing our Christmas card on Christmas and some other photos next month. If you are local (New Jersey), message me if you want the name of the photographer. You can see one of the photos at the top of this post.

While this month at work was pretty busy with the normal craziness, I was surprised by the sheer productiveness I had. There were a few bigger projects and a lot of smaller projects that needed to be tackled. Along with my projects, I was witnessing construction from my office to expand the offices next door (into the room where I am) to make it more COVID compliant. The contractors have all been awesome and I have learned a whole lot of construction jargon and how to take down a wall and build a wall. Its been interesting to watch. I can always count on my office to give me the some form of entertainment.

Thanksgiving was quiet and easy- just the way I like to spend it. We ate a lot, laughed a lot and spent more family time together. That is one blessing I am so thankful for- spending so much family time together. On the day after Thanksgiving, we decorated the outside and let me tell you, I felt like a kid again. The joy of Christmas never leaves you and I am so very thankful for that. I was excited to see everything lit up that night; it was beautiful. We were one of the last ones to decorate in the neighborhood, which I thought was funny but I guess our neighbors thought everyone needed some early Christmas joy.

I haven't been one to really online shop during this whole mess; only really buying the essentials for the house. One BIG thing that has been on my list to purchase is an inflatable Stand Up Paddleboard. I tried to buy one in the Summer and they were all sold out-I guess everyone had the same idea that I did. After finding out Body Glove was having a super sale before Black Friday/Cyber Week, I went back and forth about buying it and after a few days I decided to buy it. The price was just TOO good to pass up. I am SO excited for it to come AND for the warmer weather to come. There are so many spots to paddle near me that I currently have a checklist to make sure I get to them all.  I also took advantage of the Cyber weekend and bought myself a life vest for when I am on the river.  Merry Christmas to me!

Lastly, I have always been one to help and lately I have been having this unexplained pull to do something. Now I don't know exactly what that is but I am going to continue to explore it. I haven't felt a pull this strong in a few years. There are a few things that have popped up on social media that seem interesting but I would like to do more research on to see if they are in line with what I am exactly looking for. I don't know what I am exactly looking for but I think I will know when I see/read it. Has that ever happened to you?

Well November, you were quite the month. December I am very excited to see what you have in store for me and everyone else. I am looking forward on reflecting on this year and setting new intentions for next year.

Love, gabrielle.

Friday Favorites

Hello! Happy Friday! It's *officially* Christmas season and I could not be happier. Thanksgiving at my house was low key and relaxing. We actually slept in (if you consider sleeping until 6:30 AM sleeping in HA!) and just had a really wonderful day. Mom was the ROCKSTAR of Thanksgiving by preparing so much ahead of time so the prep today was super easy and so was the cleanup. She is the rockstar always, if I am being honest.  I am so thankful for having such amazing parents. They truly go above and beyond with everything they do. 😍

We took our Christmas card photo last week and I am eagerly awaiting the email from the photographer with our photos. I love this tradition and I cannot wait to show all of you later in December.

For Friday Favorites today, I am sharing a hodgepodge of favorite things that I have been loving:

1. Tiniest Owl Stowaway///um... this is the cutest stowaway I have ever seen. Poor thing must have been so scared and confused. I am glad he is doing better and he was released the other day. I hope he finds his family!

2. Clinique Moisture Surge Lip Hydropump ///I got this as a sample and in the beginning I was a bit skeptical thinking this was going to be a sticky lip treatment but to my surprise, it wasn't.  ( I am not a fan of sticky lip gloss/stick/treatments) I use this at night, when I am working on homework or posts, and it gives my lips the extra hydration that they need. Totally recommend and don't be scared by the small size- it packs a lot in a little package.

3.Pilsbury Crescent Rounds/// Run don't walk to the near foodstore and get these and get extra. The rounds are so light and fluffy and buttery and delicious. I might or might not have eaten one whole package on my own ( you will too when you taste them.)

5.Firehouse pup /// The newest member of the Seville-Guilford Fire Department is Marshall who loves to keep his friends in shape. He is one tough trainer but adorable.

6. George Clooney's gift/// Could you imagine having a friend like George and getting this gift?! I think its really neat that he gave this gift to his friends.

Its a bit sad to see this month end but I am excited to see what December holds for me. This weekend we are decorating the outside and I am hoping to do some work on here and finish up my homework. Do you have any exciting plans for this weekend?

I am linking up with Andrea and Erika today for Friday Favorites.

Gobble Gobble

Happy Thanksgiving from my family to yours!
This Thanksgiving might look a little different than years past but I am so very thankful for my health, my family and the life I have created. Has it been easy? Heck no, but nothing worth having, is easy. My hopes for you today are that gratitude is an overwhelming feeling - look at what you have and what you are blessed with. Think about all the good things in your life and how you can do good.  Love all and accept one another. Be kind ALWAYS.

Midweek Thoughts

Hi! The post I originally had planned for today (actually Monday, but it got bumped to today) just wasn't happening; I had a writers block and also felt a little nervous about sharing it. I will share this mystery post in the future, I promise.

I thought I would share today are my thoughts, unfiltered and not on any specific topic. It has been a while since this open candid post.

  • My mind has been racing lately and not on any one thing specifically either. I feel overwhelmed but also very calm lately.
  • I've also been having very odd dreams involving dark, scary roads and giant bats.
  • My yearly conundrum on picking a planner has started. I love the planner I have and have used for the past two year but should I shake it up? Try a new planner?
  • I got a Dazzle Dry manicure 2 weeks ago and besides the normal wear, my nails looks great. I am continually impressed by Dazzle Dry each time.
  • Also is anyone else in a book rut? I cannot find a book to read that captures my attention for longer than five minutes. It seems that I also cannot find an article I can read for longer than a few sentences.
  • There has been construction on the far side of my office and let me tell you, I have been enjoying seeing something built from nothing and learning all the neat construction jargon.
  • I bought tickets to 2 virtual concerts coming up and I am very excited. Does anyone know how to get something viewed on a Fire TV from the Internet? (I sound 80 years old right?!)
  • Did anyone else see the Amazon commercial with the ballerina dancing in the courtyard of the apartment complex? I might have cried watching it.
  • I am very excited to eat all the things tomorrow. I guess I should pick out what stretchy waistband pants I will be wearing tomorrow.
  • Isn't that a beautiful sunset photo? I promise its 100% real; my parents and I took our Christmas Card photo on Saturday during golden hour and I am eagerly awaiting to see the end results. I will for sure share them all when it gets closer to Christmas.
  • Things I have been seeing on Instagram have been inspiring me to pick my paintbrush back up again.  I haven't painted since the summer...maybe the spring(?) and I have really been missing it lately. I have when Winter breaks comes, I will let myself really jump back into it.
  • ONE month, 30 DAYS from today is CHRISTMAS!!!!
Okay, I think that's a good idea what has been going on in my mind lately. Whew! Thank you for letting me share all of that. It's always nice to know someone is reading this.

What's been going on in your mind lately?

Faithful Friday

Happy friYAY! For the Friday feels this week, it's Faithful Friday. Today I am talking about the Kindness we show others and ourselves.

Last week, I overdrew my checking account. 😲 Yup, I overdrew it by ALOT and I was upset. (Wouldn't you be?!) AND the worst part,  I found this out at night so there wasn't much I could do right then and there. I check my bank's mobile app almost everyday and that is how I found out the bad news. I was sad that I wasn't more careful with my withdrawals and I giggled at the fact that it was me moving my money to my savings account that I was over-zealous about and didn't remember I paid my credit card too. I was embarrassed that I bounced a check for the oil change the week earlier. OOPS! We all make mistakes right?!

Saturday morning, I got up bright and early to go fix this mess. I prayed that the bank would reversed the NSF (not suffient funds) charges and the autobody shop would be nice to me as well. I was relying on others for Kindness that day. I went to the bank first and plead my case citing that I have been a really good customer of theirs for over 10 years and I haven't done this in a VERY long time. The bank manager could not have been nicer and since I opened my account at another branch, she said she would contact that branch for me (so I didn't have to drive to the new 'home' branch) and she said she would call me later. Phew! That was easy. I was hopeful she was going to be able to fix this mess I made but I didn't want to count my chickens before they hatched.

On to the autobody shop; I was nervous going there because they probably didn't even I bounced the check and they wouldn't know until they got their checking statement next month. I took a deep breath and walked in. I explained my situation and after I got explaining it, I think the assistant manager was at first a little perplexed but she understood what I was doing. I told her I was paying in cash and I am terribly sorry this happened. I left feeling better that I made good on the mess I have made.

Later that day, I checked my banking app and I found a surprise reversal of charges on my account. PRAISE! She kept her promise and she did what she said she was going to do. I was so relieved to have those charges reversed. Being kind and owning your mistakes totally helped me in this situation.

Seeing the kindness the manager at the bank showed me, got me thinking about how sometimes we are not kind to ourselves. We are usually kinder to everyone else BUT ourselves. We are so hard on ourselves and we talk to ourselves terribly. We talk down to ourselves and we aren't kind to ourselves. I try to give myself kindness in the way of grace but its hard to accomplish sometimes.  Its one of the easiest things to give but yet its hard to accept for ourselves.

These verses have been so helpful with reminding me to be more kind to myself and to give myself grace.

During this holiday season, I challenge you to give yourself more kindness- not being so hard on yourself and to give yourself grace. We all need it- especially now.

How do you show yourself kindness?

Happy Adoption Day!

Its National Adoption Month and more importantly, TODAY is National Adoption Day for Ocean County. This is by far one of my most favorite days of the year. While this year will look a little different, the excitement is still here. My heart goes out to all the adoptive families that open their hearts and homes for their new addition; the birth parents who had to make the hardest decision of their lives; and to all workers involved in this beautiful process. I am so happy to be apart of such a happy day.

This is my 7th adoption day and the excitement from the very first one is still there!

November Photo Journal

November has been a crazy month so far. I am pretty sure the weather is all mixed up- We went from 32 degrees to 80 degrees in a course of 5 days. HA! I will take all these beautiful warm days- its like bonus summer. Just a fair warning, There are a lot of photos of nature. Between the leaves changing colors and these gorgeous sunsets, I had 😍 all month, looking all around me.  If I am being truthful, most of my camera roll is filled with screenshots of memes or things I want to remember. #reallife What did you see this month?

Funny Friday

Happy Friday. Another week of craziness and to be honest, I loved every moment of it. It was nice to have Wednesday off; I ventured out and it almost felt normal, going to some stores and getting my nails done. It was another unseasonable HOT day- my car said it was close to 80 degrees on Wednesday. I am hoping we get some seasonable weather soon- it is almost Mid-November, after all.

Today for the Friday Feels, its Funny Friday. This is a SUPERSIZED Funny Friday. Between the drama on the Bachelorette, the election and the pandemic, I found so many great funny posts. I always think, laughter is the best medicine so I am sharing about 30 funny memes; I think we all need to laugh especially now. Enjoy and Let me know which ones are your favorites!

Okay! I hope you laughed or at least giggled at a few of these. Wishing you the very best friYAY and the best weekend! I don't have any definite plans for the weekend and I am so excited for that. What are you doing this weekend?

I am linking up with Andrea and Erika this week for Friday Favorites.
