friYAY Favorites

I am linking up with Andrea and Erika as usual. Can't wait to read your posts!

This week has been really great. I have been feeling physically great lately. This is my last four day week of the summer and while I'll miss it, I am sure glad to have five full days to get work done rather than 4. Local summer started Monday and with this fall like weather, I am itching to walk the boardwalk or have a picnic on the beach. This time of year is my absolute favorite. Another big thing that happened this past weekend? I planned out my content for the rest of the year. ((!!!)) Yes, I am so happy to have planned that all out but now, I keep thinking of posts and I am trying to add them in, in random spots. I think I need to keep a running list of blog posts I want to write and go from there. I have to remind myself sometimes that I can't do everything. HA (I try sometimes!)

Some random things from this week:

Reading/// I jumped back into reading last week. I ending up finding two books at the library about firefighters. Its a subject I'm always interested in and kinda biased toward too (I have a few firefighters in the family) and the shorter one I started "The Rescuer" sounded really good but after about 20 pages I lost interest and I have not yet picked it up since Sunday.

The other firefighter book I picked up was called "Last Man Out" and it was written by a FDNY Battalion Chief and his experience on September 11th. For the past few years, around the anniversary of September 11th, I like to read a book that provides me with a different perspective of that day. I am hoping to start this book this weekend.

In my excitement of finding those two books, I ended up putting on hold at the library 4 more books. Thinking this would be the start of my great comeback into reading. Welp, two of those books were available so now I have 4 books sitting on my nightstand, staring at me each day and I don't really have the drive to pick any of them up.  Fingers crossed.

Yoga/// I went to yoga at Gravity Vault again this week. I have made it a priority this month to get to yoga each week. I love the Tuesday night class with Sarah. I really enjoy her style and teaching vibes. This week, I ended up being the only one signed up for class and I was SHOCKED she was willing to still teach. I have been to other studios where they have cancelled when there are less than a certain amount of students in the class. It ended up being a really awesome class! Now to get my butt back on the bouldering wall is my next step.

Running a mile each day/// Another thing I am challenging myself with this month is running one mile a day. I have successfully run one mile each morning and it has been fun though it seems like I hit a metaphoric wall the past two days.  I have really been pushing myself each morning and at my best my average pace was 8'05". Which I was shocked at and really proud especially coming from a girl who dreaded running the mile in gym class. Making myself get up and run each morning before work has been providing me some much needed discipline in my life. I can't wait to see what my average pace is after the month is complete.

Eliza Fletcher/// I've been running in the mornings by myself and the news that Eliza was doing the same and she was kidnapped scared me. Tuesday morning, I was a little more jumpy and a lot more aware on my run that morning. I don't run with headphones, I stay on well lit streets and I do everything in my power to protect myself. How scary is it that this happened. There have been so many others like her and this will probably not last.

The Queen/// I was pretty sad to hear that The Queen had passed away. She lived a truly enchanted life. From being so young taking the throne to all of the adventures she has experienced. She was one tough lady and I love her legacy. I wonder where her corgis will go? Is there a sign up list?  (asking for a friend!)

Here are some of my favorite articles of the week:

Safety post// a blogger and runner wrote this very informative post about how women can stay safe while running.

Knoebels Amusement Park/// This little amusement park has stolen my heart. Reading this article about the history of it and why they will remain the same makes me love them even more. You have to go visit this place, just once.

Mr. Beast's Restaurant/// Mr. Beast opened up a brick and mortar store at the American Dream Mall and THOUSANDS of people showed up.

Corporate Life to Bagel Maker/// Keri from @JerseyCollective interviewed Matt Harvey, the owner of Harvey's Handrolled Bagels about how he quit his corporate job to make bagels.

This weekend///

Kyle and I are heading out to Pennsylvania to go see the Light by Bruce Munro exhibit at Longwood Gardens. I have been looking forward to this for SO long. I am pretty excited. A certain pink friend will be joining up too because rumor has it, her pink friends will be in attendance.

How in the world is it the 21st anniversary of September 11th already?! I remember this day 21 years ago so clearly, its eerie. There are so many thoughts and emotions surrounding this day that I have collected them into a post for Sunday.

Other than that, I plan to enjoy the sunshine and spending time with Kyle!

  1. I like to use a big blank wall calendar and fill in my posts for the month/ year that way knowing that Fridays are my Friday favorites and the last wed. of the month is What's Up Wednesdays, etc. But I still always feel like I'm trying to cram in more content.

I haven't been to Longwood Gardens since I was in grade school with my grandparents. I do remember those beautiful fountains and just flowers and plants everywhere. I hope you have a fabulous time!

  2. Thats a great idea- a large wall calendar! I've used so many different methods of the years and I'm still trying to perfect it.
